The first event of the CIGRE Cyprus committee on “Challenges and Trends in Future Power Systems” was held with great success on May 9, hosted by the Electricity Authority of Cyprus (EAC) at its headquarters in Nicosia. The CIGRE Cyprus committee consists of more than 40 experts in electricity systems from various governmental and non-governmental organizations and universities in Cyprus, and is the local committee of the CIGRE (Conseil International des Grands Réseaux Electriques) international organization based in Paris with more than 15,000 members worldwide.
The event was opened with welcome remarks by the Chairperson of the Board of Directors of EAC, Mrs. Despina Panayiotou Theodosiou, who stressed the intention of EAC to lead a cost-effective energy transition in Cyprus, developing its electrical system to be efficient, intelligent, digital and catalyst in the development of emerging technologies. Invited speakers from leading transmission and distribution system operators in Europe (National Grid – UK, RTE – France, and BKW Energie AG – Switzerland)
