Upgrading of Transmission Substations “Papacostas” and “Ipsonas”, and the establishment of a new primary substation “Limassol New Port”

The EAC transmission system is facing various challenges concerning:

Changes in the operation of the electricity grid (increasing needs for traceability and control of electricity flow as a result of the increasing use of RES),

Increased need for green energy penetration in the transmission and distribution system; and

Changes in technologies (increasing needs for increased grid capacity due to the use of RES and electrification of energy).

In order to keep up with the current challenges and trends, EAC is undertaking a gradual upgrade of transmission substations that will allow for a significant increase in power flow, greater safety and reliability, as well as the integration of RES installations and other new technologies, such as energy storage.

This project concerns upgrades of Transmission Substations “Papacostas” and “Ipsonas”, and the establishment of a new primary substation “Limassol New Port”
